There have been some reports in the past that the Zenitar 16mm fisheye could block the mirror of the 5D as it protrudes a bit more into the body then other lenses. As I already had a Zenitar and just got my 5DII, I was anxious to know whether that would be the case with a 5DII. I'm sure there are others out there with the same question.
I hesitated long, said several prayers, counted on my warranty and bit the bullet.....
It worked. No problem. Great news.

PS also my Peleng 8mm works fine, but I never heard any problems there.
The reported problems when using the Peleng are with the filter holder mounted on the back. This can hit the 5D's mirror. Without the holder there should not be a problem.

But the filter holder with the clear filter in it is supposed to be there as a part of the design. What happens with the IQ if removed. I expect the focusing ring would need a recalibration but is there anything else happening?
If the filter is just a filter, then there should not be any problems. If it is an actual lens element, then it would be hard to find filters for it and omitting it would indeed require adjusting the focus mechanism. But I think this will not be the case.

The filter is just a filter. I just seem to remember people having reported the need of adjusting the distance scale. Well, my guess is there should be no problems.
No, I left the clear filter in place. As I understand, this clear plate is essential for the optical design. I have not tried without it. The Peleng came with a set of color filters to could replace this clear filter (of no use in the digital age).
here are some test pics (no technical or creative quality claimed ). Also posted on the Canon forum.
Note that the Peleng image circle is slightly clipped and slightly asymmetric. I do not expect this to be problem as the rim as considerable chromatic abberation anyhow.

i would never dream of putting a shitty zenitar or peleng on a 5DII, not even as a joke.
not all of photography has to be sharp and taken with the worlds best lens. I've taken large format shots with lenses just a step or two higher than the bottom of a coke bottle
I agree, typically people don't use fisheye that often as it is only particularly suited to certain applications. Spending a lot on the canon fisheye (or worse yet 16mm f-distagon) when you are comfortable with a manual lens is almost foolish. The Zenitar is also surprisingly good at f11.
Same holds for me. I use the Zenitar and Peleng only very occasionally. Mainly for pano and QTVR experiments and an occasional fun shot. I got them 2nd hand from ebay and I find them both great value for the relatively little money I paid.
Would I need a fisheye on a more regular basis, I'd definitely go for a more modern lens though, if it would be only for the automatic diaphragm.

Does your Zenitar have an EOS mount, or are you using an adapted lens? Just curious since a while back I had an EOS-mount Peleng for my 30D and had some focusing issues, which I had attributed to the mount...

I have no problem with the Zenitar 16/2.8 and 5DII either. I have the filter installed in the back.
+1.
Not even dreaming about putting a Zenitar on the 5DMkII seems to be a way to limit oneself. The Zenitar isn't stellar but it is certainly good enough for a lot of funny applications.
