Canon EF 300mm f/2.8 L IS USM: The Beast, Phat Boy

I can't believe I'm responding to this, but indeed, I independently came up with a similar name for this lens (had not seen a nickname for this lens before though)..

http://www.welsh-house.net/contests/sexybeast-lens.jpg

It was named in honor of the beautiful car I (for real) sold to fund the purchase of said lens (and a 5D and 24-70L):

I only nicknamed the 200/f1.8 and 400/f2.8IS:

200/f1.8......Stubby
400/f2.8IS...Tubby

In Iceland the 100-400 was always called ”The Masturbator”! If Sigma 24-70 can be called ”The Buttplug” then I think what I said isn’t too vulgar for this thread.

I read somewhere that the 200/2L IS is called the "platinum brick?"

My wife and I call the Oly 40 f2 just "the lens" on the grounds that it is definitive and classic like "the chair": http://www.danishdesignstore.com/products/model-pp501-the-chair-pp-mobler-by-hans-wegner

Those who like to be able to focus manually and have used a Canon 35 f2 will agree with me that it might be called the Rubik cube, not just for the build quality but also because focussing it manually requires as much dexterity, determination, and spare time as solving that more deliberate puzzle.

My 200 f1.8 reminds me of a megaphone or loud-hailer, but attracts attention more successfully.

The 17mm T/S looks like Cyclops.

On the sports forum, the 200 f/1.8 is referred to as "Mikey" (see the movie "Monsters, Inc.") and the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 is Miss Siggy.

My 135L but the L is for Leica, as it is my one lens to remind me of the Leica stuff.

My canon 500 4.5 was labelled the Moose Canon this past weekend... ironic, since it was hunting moose and couldn't find any... just a bride and groom...

I think Greg Feldman coined the term, but on the alt forum people have taken to calling the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 the Sigmalux. Some of the Leica people don't seem to like it, but the name seems to have stuck.

A friend of mine coined the name "shitty-to-thirty-five L" for the 16-35L (Mk I).

I'm surprised there is no common nickname for the 85/1.8 seeing how common it is.

How about "the beer can"?

Oh, I also refer to my 10-22 as the "toe-shooter" as it's way, WAY too easy to get your toes in the shot at 10mm!
