p.1 #1 · #57 Fat Squirrel

I've never gotten to shoot squirrels close up till my husband built a platform feeder and put it on the patio outside the kitchen window. My 70-200 with 1.4x puts me on a first name basis with these guys.

Just replaced the image to a tighter shot of the squirrel's face as he's eating sunflower seeds.

Nice details you got here. It could had a lot of dynamic if we could see the squirrel in action or at a "decisive moment".

Thanks, Jean-Yves! I decided to go with a tighter shot of the squirrel eating his seeds. The previous image actually did show him pausing to assess the danger; he'd heard a noise as my dogs started to go outside and he froze.

How well does the 1.4 work with the a 70-200? How harshly does it affect the aperture?

Nice shot

You lose 1 stop. Image might be every so slightly softer? With the extended focal range any movement will be just that much more magnified. I took this hand held; the IS helps. I'm sure others can speak to this subject better than I, as I haven't used my 1.4x that much, but I am not disappointed with it!

Looks like you did a fine job taking this hand held. The details are very good. Definitely close up! Thanks for the info on using the 1.4 with this lens. -Jamie
