I would not sell your 70-200 F4IS to finance the purchase of both lenses. Just pick the lens that makes the most sense financially or is closer to the focal length you tend to use more. However please keep in mind that the 85mm on a 40D is equivalent to 135mm Field of View (FOV) on the 5DMKII....
I own the 135 F2.0 L and the lens is truly special. I use it on a 1DMKIII and I think the focal length becomes even more versatile on FF camera like the 5DMKII. I would suggest to purchase a used on the B&S forum. If you find the Focal length doesn't work then you can always resell it for the same price you paid for it. I doubt you will ever part with any of these lens if you purchase them though.

The 85L spends more time on my 5D but the 135L really shines when I'm shooting on the street and need a bit more length. It is clear holding the 85L why it might cost quite a bit more money. No doubt it creates magical bokeh and luscious color. Yes, the heavy lens element takes a bit of time to move, making focusing challenging, but typically you're making minor shifts in focus that can be done rather quickly. It is a gem. That said, the 135L also produces wonderful bokeh and can be used wide open without hesitation. And it focuses in a flash. I can't imagine EVER letting go of either and can say the same about the 35L. Investing in good glass always makes sense, especially when buying on FM and other online sites. It is possible with a bit of patience and care to get excellent glass at very reasonable prices. Good luck!

The focusing speed is the biggest complaint I have of the 85LII. At times that can be a pain, but then you look at the results and they are fantastic. The 135 gets great results too and jumps into focus immediately. They are both great at what they do.

I agree with those who say they really aren't comparable lenses: One is significantly longer in focal length than the other, and its uses are different. The 135 also loses 1-1/3 stops of light to the 85. The big benefit of the 85 is its extremely narrow DoF and soft bokeh which can not be replicated by any other Canon lens under the same circumstances of subject distance, focal length, etc. The only lens that might achieve similar bokeh is the 200 f/2L, and it's certainly not as general-purpose usable as the 85.
I own the 135, and I have been trying to sell it before I buy a 5D mark II. It's a wonderful, sharp, responsive lens, but since I bought a 70-200 f/2.8 IS, I no longer need the 135 and it doesn't get used anymore. However, the 85 most certainly is a lens I plan to get someday and it would pair well with the 70-200 IS because it's 2-1/3 stops faster and has that special bokeh.
