I just create an online web gallery from Adobe Lightroom. I email them the link once it's online. All the photos are numbered so they can then email me afterwards on which ones they want.

All mine get paper proofs. I want grand ma's and grand dads to hold the prints, aunts and uncles, as well as co-workers, schoolmates, etc..... You never know what type of monitors people are using for viewing images.

For basic business headshots where I charge a set fee for the session and one print I load into DPP( have lightroom but still learning it) then we pick the best 2-4 images and review again in PS where we can see more detail. Retouch the pick and we are done. For family or groups I pick some of the best and retouch them, print as 8x10's mounted. The others are 4x6 prints. As Pfiltz said I also want the clients to hold and touch the prints. It brings the emotion to the sale.

No way am I going down that road
Excellent point! If I ever turned this photography thing into a little business one day then that would definitely be the way I would go. I have witnessed so many times where an image looks great on one monitor and terrible on another.

Thanks to all, but let me clarify. There was another post about onsite/event printing, and the clear favorite there was a client server system that supported many viewing stations. What I need is something that I can show clients their portraits, maybe in a slideshow, with music, on my laptop. Does anyone use something for that? I do not have Lightroom, but I do have CS4, Photo Mechanic, and Picasa.
I used Picasa, but it has a bad habit of changing the colors (or so it seems to me) on some pictures.

I have proshow gold, and love it, however; I use it for my Slide Shows that runs on my LCD TV in the studio of 750 images that I've thrown together. I don't use it for clients to view images. I use paper.
Footnote: I am entertaining the notion of creating a websized version of a slideshow for my seniors to take home with them, and to let them share with their friends. Mom will still get paper for proofs though.
I email them images anyway for their myspace stuff already.
