Thanks for viewing and your kind comments, I think 50D is a very capable and impressive camera, and I really don't think there is another camera out there at 1000 dollars that can do better.
Garen
I would totally agree Garen. I have all the heavy Canon and Nikon hardware in the studio and what I am seeing from the 50D is very darn impressive. Thanks again for your contributions.

Although these are superb captures in composition, colour light etc, IMO many of these are very slightly OOF (black bird and a few others excepted) which I believe is the major problem with any of the xxD cameras in general. In AI servo they rarely nail focus spot on, the keeper rate is much lower than on the 1 series. My 40D can return impressive detail when it nails AF, too but it's not as frequent as I like for moving subjects.
50D was never going to have issues with detail although it's not that much better than the 40D at all and barely any improvement over the excellent 450D. It's the sheer number of pixels that makes it great for birding, you can crop a lot and still have a large number of pixels on your subject.
I'm not in any way implying Garen is not very talented so please don't take these comments the wrong way - it's just my impressions of Canon's non 1 series camera of which I've own(ed) 3. No camera is perfect but I find the keeper rate on my 1D II 30-50% higher than my other cameras in AI servo....Show more →
Thanks for the look and your comments, I agree 100% with your observation 50D is not in the same league as 1DMKIII and my intention was not to suggest that it is. But, for under 1100 dollars no camera that I know of can best it. The only slight disagreement will be in comparison with 40D I believe it is noticeably better than 40D.

super series Garen....both bodies are quite capable.
I found the 50D AF to be extremely good and AI servo tracked a burst of 15 with only 1 miss. Impressive for an XXD

Thanks Dan, nothing out of ordinary, I used DPP to process the raw in to CS3 for posting, level, saturation, sharpening and web sizing that's all.

Great variety, Garen. Either combo shines in your hands. Have you tried to switch lenses?
Socrate
Thanks Socrate, I have many shots with MK3 and 600 but none with 50D and 400DO, as matter of fact I have only used the 50D with 600 excluding test shots with my other lenses.

Nice work Garen. Hanging with Ken H Be careful, he rubs off. Next thing you know you'll be lugging an entire camera store with you on every shoot!!
Thanks Johnny, its too late now I walk around with 2 complete set every Sunday or any photo outing that I go to arhhhh.
Great comparisons and IQ. Did you have to make any lens adjustments on the 50D? My 100-400 was recently rebuilt by Canon and even with -9 is still soft, and am not completely happy with my 600 on this camera either. Results on hairy beasts are OK but I am not happy with the lack of feather detail on little "burdies".
My only fear is that it is me, a dyslectic, half senile old fart that failed to read properly.
