So I stumbled across some photos I posted online many years ago just after I got into photography and I felt it would be interesting to share them. Like many here my interest in photography came from a desire to buy new gadgets along with my wife's desire to have great photos of her two kids Cheering. Below are two shots taken years ago with my 10D + 50/1.8. This was my first attempt shooting Cheerleading without the kit lens and I would learn I could take better photos as long as I had enough cash to spend on fast glass. These photos also started me down the road of event photography.
Over the years I've gotten better so no need for C&C but at the time I was very proud of these images. So lets see YOUR first attempt at Sports Photography...
hehe... fun post. Here is my contribution. This is about 5 years ago on an original Rebel and Sigma 70-300 f/4.5-5.6. Interesting thing about this photo... the kid pitching wound up being in my classroom the next year, then played baseball for me in 8th grade and now starts JV. The sign in the background, LiSPN Sports Photo, I had never even heard of at the time and I now own part of the company. Strange things man.

I guess I got into it from another angle: bought a 200/1.8 and then a 1D (accidentally) to shoot my daughter's gymnastics. Then my purchasing department (wife) tells me that I'd better figure out a way for that new gear to pay for itself!
Not my very first sports outing (it's on an external at my college apartment and I'm home) but my first ever big sports assignment for the school paper.
If you ignore the ridiculous white balance (probably fluorescent if not auto) underexposure and too-slow shutter speed, it's otherwise not too shabby :-P
