I was hoping to get out and make some images on the first day of 2009, but all we had was gray gloom. Yesterday the sun made a rare appearance here in the NW from mid-morning on.
Not a whole lot of activity at the usual hangout, but the Kingfisher posed for me again for a few moments. Some Meadowlarks were about, but they were much less cooperative.
Later in the afternoon I decided to check out Elliott Bay for some resident Coho flyfishing. Didn't find any fish around, but did notice a lone Black Turnstone on the beach. Went back to the truck to grab the camera - bird took off. I walked up the beach a ways an found several more Turnstones feeding on the barnacles as the tide was ebbing. Unfortunately I didn't get any flight shots as I was not using my Canon gear. The Pentax K20D just isn't fast enough to track and it was tough enough just getting down to water level with the big 13Lb super-zoom.
Anyway, here are a few of the images:
LMAO Jay this sounds like my story a hundred times over
Found the birdz >> They flew off
Found the Critters >> They wouldn't let me get close
Lost my truck keys >> Found my truck keys
Sorry your critters aint cooperating. We all have those days. And I have more than my
share of those days.
Nice variety Jay
Congrats on the KF > Just a bit over exposed for the whites
Turnstones are excellent > I don't have any shotz of those.
Very nice
I really like the first turnstone # 5 shot. I like the angle and the fact you can see the toe nails on
the feet > Nice angle and DOF
Oh lucky you Jay, you got out in the nice weather!
I have dying to use those orangish trees as a bg but nothing plays nice. Then you get a KF posing in front of them! Great shot!
No I couldn't see you on the rocks with the Pentax! I almost go stuck down there once with a way smaller rig. Had to give it a gentle toss over the seawall! Love the turnstones. All of them.
