Im sure this topic has been beat to death but I searced and didn't come up with much expect for a few on the 5D/5D mark II or others asking about some expensive glass. Im looking for an alternative lens for my Canon 40D. I just purchased this camera about 1 week ago and have the kit lens, 28-135mm, but I would like to get another to shoot with. Im thinking I would like a little more zoomed lens but Im not sure on what would be a good one? What would you suggest on some more zoomed lenses or any lens you have fun shooting with? Also which brands you would purchase over the others? Im not looking to spend a a lot. I would like to keep it under $300 if possible but if they are a little more expensive still post it up and I might just save a little longer.
Thanks, Trevor
P.S. How do you make your signature show up on a post?
Honestly, I think you will have more *fun* spending that $300 on an EF 35/2 and 50/1.8... significantly better than your zoom and much faster for available light and shallow DOF... but that is me. If you are into closeups, the EF 50 Compact-Macro can be loads of fun too, gives great results and is very cheap.
well, on alternatives... I think Leica makes the best lenses in general... and either the Summicron-R 50 or 90 (non-APO) can be had for under $300...
I would suggest looking into a Contax Vario-Sonnar 35-70 F3.4. Its a great lens in the $300 price range. I have one and love it. You will see a lot of pics on this forum using this lens. It also has great Macro ability.
