You can view the shutter count yourself if you have Photoshop. Click on File -> File Info -> Advanced Tab -> Now a list comes up, click on the one that ends with exif\1.0\aux. This will give you the shutter count in the aux:Image number line.
Is that exiftool just for windows? Anything for Macs?

There is a mac version. On windows it is a command line program with out the GUI interface. I am not sure how the mac version works but I use it all the time in windows. More info here:
