p.1 #1 · Belated Happy New Year

Hi All,

Just wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy New Year. I'm finalizing my film camera order and haven't shot landscapes lately so I', posting another foggy cemetery image taken with my little Lumix FX500 "point and shoot". Added grain and vignetting in PS for an old time look.

Hope the New Year brings fulfillment of all our wishes.

Best,

Jose

Nice graveyard scene, great image, Jose. Tell me about your film camera. Is it a BIG film camera?

Thanks Jeffrey. The film camera is going to be mid-size - a Fotoman 612 format with a Schneider 58mm XL. I found out last year that this is how I "see", in a 2:1 ratio, because of my glasses . I've been ramping up to this for a while and it's taken a lot of research. The 58mm is very wide for this format but DOF is a strong consideration, and as most of you know, DOF in the larger film formats is not what it is with 1.5x DSLRs. There's also scanners, loupes, ground glass - all kinds of things to consider. In the end though, I think this is the direction I want to go. The 612 format is pretty big, basically a cropped 4x5. It's either this or buying a D3x for 8K and throwing it away in two years!

Thanks again!

Jose

Hey Jose,

I think you should still get the D3x, but just don't throw it away in 2 years, I would glad take it off your hands...

Very nice work here with your little Lumix.

And have a Happy New Year!

Recuerdos, Jose. Have a great New Year. Best of luck with the new equipment and, in the meantime, your getting pretty good results with the lumix, given this example.

"Happy New Year" ...

Jim, doesn't need the D3X it will weigh him down. Me on the other hand
would love to get one of those puppies.

Can't wait to see your film results.

Thanks Barry, it will be a while. The camera takes two or three weeks to get here. Then all the cursory exposure tests, setting up a scanner, etc. I wont be ordering it until the middle of this week or so, depending on some pressing issues. My guess is not before sometime in February.

Thanks again,

Jose

Happy new year to you too Jose. Nice job in photoshop, you achieved your intended purpose admirably. Just the right amount of the film look to this one.
