p.1 #1 · Bighorn Sheep prepare for winter

The snow is falling more regularly again in the park now. The many awesome animals in Yellowstone are now going tyo have to migrate to lower elevations to find food. This Bighorn is one who was concentrating on his daily required amount of nutrients when I saw him with a group of about 8 or so others. These guys are well insulated for the cold that has set in as you can see by his heavy coat. I enjoy watching these Rams more than any other form of wildlife in the park.

I enjoyed photographing these guys too while in Yellowstone.
Are the roads all clear? Maybe I need to make the trip

Indfeed the roads were good one week ago. There were numerous spots where it was patchy with snow but certainly passable as long as you are cautious. It has snowed again since then though so who really knows?

Very nice!! I've been to Yellowstone twice for summer vacations. Shot moose, bear, and all the usual stuff, but never saw any sheep or goats despite driving to what was supposed to be their normal stomping grounds.

Hey Greg, sorry I just got back to this. The best moose shots I got was across the street from the lodge maybe 1/2 mile outside the east entrance toward Cody. However, I did get some nice shots of a cow and calf 2 or three miles north of the bridge by the lodge in the park. I went by those "sheep" areas you are talking about so many times my eyes nearly gave out looking for sheep. I finally decided the sheep knew I was a trmendous hunter and were scared I'd have a gun, so they hid

Well thanks for that info. I will pass it on to my cohort who I go with on our trips to the park. I will get a few nice shots of a Bull Moose one day just as you will the Mountain Sheep. I was there during rutting season and fortunately they like to scuffle there near the road . Be sure to let me know when you get yours .
