Here is couple of Osprey in flight shots.... It was an ideal condition. Sunny, blue sky, and bright. There is no reason why the combo won't auto focus lock onto the Osprey. The Osprey was way up there. The following required some significant cropping...

I would suggest the 50D or the 5DII body, with that lens....the focus is sooooooo much better....I have had two 1DIII bodies and neither one of them (yellow or green dots) worked ....the 50D and the 5D both work just like the 1DIIN did....

They main reason why i dont want the 5Dmk2 is that even tho i would love to own a full frame camera, i want to shoot wildlife/birds as well and need a little more reach.
Feels like 1.3x crop is a good compromise. Plus im getting a perfect copy for less than the cost of a 5D2.
The other thing is that the 400/5.6L wont autofocus with 1.4xTC on the 5 but on a 1D it will.
The copy ive been offered to buy is guarantied to work perfectly AF wise, the seller (well known swedish photographer) will give me 1 week to make sure the camera is perfect or ill have my money back.
Amazing photographs.. makes me want it even more! =)
Since 5D got twice as megapixels as 1D3, would i be able to crop 5D2 to the same reach as the 1D, and get similar image quality?
My guts say noway, but at least i have asked.. =D
I had never tried any BIF with the 400 f5.6 + Canon 1.4x until today. Seemed to work reasonably well in good light, it's nice & sunny here in So Cal right now. It's not extremely fast to acquire focus but once it does, it seems to hold it ok. Of course, shooting these giant, slow birds isn't particularly demanding on the MarkIII AF.
