p.1 #1 · Solved: Canon's 1.4x extender and FD macro bellow

Just experienced that obviously Canon's 1.4x teleconverter II for EF can not simply be attached to an EF/FD adapter (without glass element). The EF/FD adapter is used to connect with a Canon FD auto macro bellow. Everything works perfectly fine if the bellow plus adapter is directly connected to the camera. But if the 1.4x teleconverter is located in between, an error message shows up after the shutter release button is pressed stating "Error 01" and the picture is not taken.
It looks like the extender asks for an attached lens or connection which directly uses the contacts of the extender (this is used to control the lens aperture). The EF/FD adapter does obviously not use any of those contacts.

Did anybody else observe a similar problem? Is there a way to use the Canon 1.4x teleconverter in such described combination?

Just solved the problem myself - it works if I tape the three left pins inside the camera body with a removable tape strip (similar to what you can do if you want to use AF in a lens-teleconverter combination with f8 as minimum aperture, that's how I came up with this). The error message does not show up and the photo is taken in a normal way. Works fine now!

I've had that err01 with my TC. It simply can't be used with manual focus lens or in this case, the bellow. Just letting you know in case you run into the same problem with other manual focus lens.

Another fix is to fasten the TC to the bellow/lens properly but don't lock it to the camera body, ie. don't rotate it all the way until it clicks.

Same trick as above described in my second post works for any manual focus lens. Your idea of not locking the TC all the way works, too. Unfortunately I need to have it locked when I use my bellow since it allows me to rotate the whole camera (plus the TC) 90 degrees from horizontal to vertical position and vice versa. If it is unlocked, the camera might come off during the rotation.
