I did not like the original color version of this scene all that much so I played with it in post and finished with this. I kinda-sorta like it but I may have gone a little overboard with the pp. Any comments?
Interesting, I'm generally not overly enthusiastic about this style but I really like the richness and soft nature of the tones. Reminds me somewhat of Ilford FP4 from days gone by.
Color or B&W, gorgeous scenery.
Would it be possible to get the original to experiment with? Would you share the conversion method used?
Thx for commenting Bob, It started out as an HDR image then I used the one of the preset conversions in PSE5 and then did some dodging and burning, among many other tweaks that I did not save nor can I remember exactly. I will try to post the original later if you still want.
Of course it depends on your goal. I like the slightly surreal/fairy tale feel and thiink that makes the image more creative and engaging, 'though the scene is wonderful. I am not a fan of HDR; to me many HDR's feel plastic and/or more surreal and comic-bookish. Again, I think you did a great job as is.

i find i can stare at this image for a long time and see so many different things. from the 'heavens speaking to me' clouds to the shrubs and treeline in the distance. each area holds its own and the picture wouldn't be the same should one element be missing. IMO, the BW conversion adds to that richness. my only concern is the reflection in the pond - it doesn't seem to correspond to the dark clouds i.e. there seem to be more more dark clouds than should be white reflections.
OK this is either really COOL or it's waaaay too late and i should be sleeping instead. but does anybody see an 'evil' face hidden in the clouds? Top of frame closer to the left?
