p.1 #1 · Cap that fits a Nikon 28/2.8 AI-s with the HN-2 in place?

Odd question, I know. Also maybe I should post in the Nikon forums, but heck there's probably more Canon shooters using Nikon AI-s glass than Nikon shooters.

Besides, it's CREEPY over there, for a 5D kinda' guy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So here's the problem:

I love my Nikon 28mm f/2.8 AI-s. I bought a 52mm pinch-cap to protect it. It goes on just fine.

Then I found an original HN-2 hood for it. It fits/works fine, except: With the hood in place, the pinch-cap won't stay on. I've never seen this happen with any other lens.

Since this hood is quite shallow, this is a problem. I really want to protect the glass.

Any ideas or known solutions?

Just make sure you don't rub the front lens each time you put the cap on and off. I don't like the old style pinch caps, there is simply not enough wiggle room to pinch the release . I am using this for mine: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/90027-REG/Hama_HA_93124_52mm_Snap_On_Plastic_Wide.html. It works great and it looks quite elegant. I hope your Ai-S 28mm is the one that can goes down to 0.2m, which is a signficantly better lens that the one that goes only to 0.3m which Nikon adopted to their AF version for unknown reasons...

The recent Pentax 52mm cap that aren't Nikon/Tamron style will fit HN-1/2/3 hoods without popping out. I ended up using one of these on my 32/2 AI-S with HN-3 hood and tested it on the HN-1 as well. These are the stock caps for the Pentax DA 18-55 and DA 50-200.

The AI-S goes to 0.2m, it's the AI and Series E that don't. The AF version is based on the Series E with CRC added, not the AI. The AF-D is a new design.

As Mawz says, the AI-s was a different animal from all the others. Really a wonderful lens.

AGeoJO, That Hamma looks great. Does it give zero vignetting with the lens wide open?

I like the look, and even more the function, of rectangular hoods. Certainly I can see how this is also a safer way to use caps. However, the one downside is that none of my lenses will then fit in there pouches. Hmmm ....

I just went what Bjorn indicated on his site: http://www.naturfotograf.com/lens_wide.html. Maybe I misunderstood what he wrote. At any rate, I didn't try any other Nikkor 28mm. The Hama is reported to be fine for even 24mm. So, our 28mm doesn't have any vignetting issues whatsoever.

Here is a shot from that lens:

There is a 28/2.8 AIS .2m version at my local camera shop. I'd grab it if it was close to $100 just to try, but they want $200 for it. I already have a 28/2 AI which is one of my favorite lenses. I have the HN-1 cap on my 28/2 and the 52mm center pinch cap fits just fine.
