p.1 #1 · The Difficult Wedding

Well this thing was a crapshoot but the brides still happy even if I'm not.

Give me both barrels I'm not happy at all but I've not posted anything in awhile so felt the urge.

general rule of thumb on FM: if you're going to dog a wedding you've done (and we all do that from time to time), don't post pics to go along-if your bride/groom/family stumbles on this post (which they can easily do via google search engines)....not good for your relationship or business reputation, not to mention referrals-YMMV

my two nits about this set are:
1. a few too many shots with "bridal glow" or my taste
2. a number of these seem to be taken looking down and and from a wide angle-do you have other angles? i'd love to see you mix it up more-again, personal taste

hope this is useful-thanks for sharing your work

I am all for vignettes, but you've got a few here that should be toned down (2,9), I think. YMMV

There are some very lovely images in there, even with the Bridal Glow .

Personally I'd be very happy to get results like this.

Incidentally, as long as the Bride and her mum are happy, then be happy for yourself. You've delivered what they wanted, which ultimately is what you're there for. As already said, it's probably best keeping your thoughts about the wedding to yourself, and if you can learn anything from it, then chalk the experience up.

Good stuff

Yeah, I don't see what this issues are here. ISO 3200 1/80 and bad lighting (direction, color, mix) ? That's normal here.

Ever have to shoot 9 groomsmen IN the bathroom (a 2 staller no less?)
Ever have a DJ not show?
Ever had a priest MOVE your camera bag, and dump it all out while doing so? Less than 5 minutes before the ceremony began of course.
Ever have them turn off all the lights in the church for the processional - making it pitch black as it was 5 pm in november?

Could always be worse as the above is my fun this past few weddings!

Thanks for the ego boost guys, I went with the glow this time around due to the NASTY color noise I was getting from my 20d I'm getting a 5d in the near future to cure that problem hopefully.

I agree the glow is a bit much it's been toned down since I posted this and sent the proofs off to the client, she's happy but I wasn't except with one or two images and then only marginally. I spent probably 5min per image to get it where it is and thats working fast with both LR1 and PS with a graphire pad so we are talking tons more editing time than I normally do, every image was masked and worked on.

My 20d died on me for no reason right before the recession prompting me to make a panic run back to the gear bag but it kicked back on. Still dunno what the problem was.

+1 on YIKES

The bridal glow only sorta works on 3 and 9. I would ditch it for the rest.

Why ISO3200 if you are getting 1/80 sec? Especially at 11mm.. go down to ISO 800- 1/20 sec or ISO1600- 1/50 sec.

How the hell did you dislocate your shoulder at the wedding?

I don't know, if I was the second shooter at the wedding if I could have kept my mouth shut about the bride and 1st shooter. I don't even know what would be professional and ethical to do at that point.

I'd probably end my relationship with that photographer, as he's probably no longer good for business. Or maybe he is, he'll split up the bridge and groom and give you 2 more weddings to shoot. Seriously, that kind of debauchery is what you want to stay far from.

Not sure if the implied criticism of the bridal party in your comments next to the images is appropriate.

The images appear to be fine

no, no. you got it wrong. he was leaving to avoid a situation that she was making! i have continued to shoot with him for years, and nothing of the kind ever happened, it was actually documented by video when she pulled him into the john....
