p.1 #1 · Finally! A ring shot I'm happy with!

I've been striving for that perfect ringshot for a long time now and am never happy with the results. But today I've had my best yet!

C&C appreciated.

Not to be cruel but the diamond looks like you just pulled it out of the mud. The diamonds in general have not flash. Think you getting closer but this is not acceptable in my opinion. Best of luck.

It is a nice shot. But what is that white thing inside of the diamond?

more context, link the image to something iconic from the day. if it was a beach wedding, use sand, if they are playful, use bright colors, something, otherwise it looks just the same as that funny rock-encrusted thing they have on their hand already.

I'm diggin' the composition. The blurred bkgnd totally works for me. It looks like you caught some ceiling reflection, or reflection in the facets of the area in front of the ring, maybe?

The posing is creative..note to myself. Nicely done.

Is the diamond that color? Well that sucks for her.

Whatever was to the right caste an unpleasant reflection to your lens.

It can be disappointing when you're concentrating so hard on one part (I was going to say facet) of a shot that you become oblivious to other parts.

thanks for your comments everyone

I did notice this on the night in an earlier shot and tried to clean the ring the best I could but without a soft brush i couldn't get behind the diamond to clean it.

But what is that white thing inside of the diamond?
Its the reflection from the flash

Point taken, thank you. I looked around for about an hour for something interesting, but unless i used the flowers (which is a shot I'm personally bored with) there wasn't anything. I did do some shots with the christmas decorations but I wasn't happy with them and the couple were avoiding christmas themes on the day.

The blurred bkgnd totally works for me
Thank you, that was what I was trying to go for

Thanks, I was trying to do something to show off both of her rings as I thought they were pretty.

Good work and keep practicing!

I agree with the other posters. The rings were not adequately prepared for this shot. The diamond looks dirty and the way the rings were lit makes them look like they were badly scratched.

I'm glad you're happy with your results and if your client likes it, that's all that matters.

Yes, I now know to take a polishing pad and toothbrush with me in my emergency kit.

The rings were badly scratched, so there was no way away from it unfortunately, even from off camera flash, bouncing or direct flash. it just means work in PS.

The framing and the focus are good, but the lighting is too direct and harsh. Something more diffuse would work much better. Post processing that was slightly less contrasty would help as well.

As for lighting, bouncing the flash off the ceiling could work, or if that isnt an option, you might try going outdoors and using sunlight - either directly or diffused in the shade of a tree.

Maybe convert to B&W to get rid of the color cast in the diamond and a little pshop to clean up the inside of the diamond to increase the clarity.
