I'm having some problems getting boot camp to work on my 1st generation mac pro. I'm trying to load vista 64 and when the computer restarts it locks on a black screen saying I have a boot failure.
I did not realize that vista 64 would be such a pain...I would have gone with 32 to make the installation easier / possible.
Any help would be great...I've googled it and it looks like the problem is widespread but I'm not understanding how to get past it.
I kinda gave up on BootCamp myself. Too much trouble and no clear docs on how to set it up. I went with a VM instead. If you get it going tutorialize the steps - I'd love to read (and maybe do) it.
I think the problem is that when BootCamp, when it creates the partition for your Windows OS does so in FAT32. Windows runs in NTFS (though XP can run in FAT). Basically you need to go back to OSX, delete the partition, make a new one, and when you go to install Vista again, you need to reformat the partition in NTFS (I've never actually used or installed Vista, but when you're installing XP there is an option to select the drive you want to install your OS on). You then need to reformat the drive (partition) in NTFS. I've had some similar issues with a friend's MB and XP, but eventually it worked. I remember having to use some command line stuff (just google how to reformat the partition when installing Vista).

All you need to do if you're installing Vista is have the Vista installer reformat that partition in NTFS. Easy peasy. No OS X Disk Utility, no command line juju, no virgin sacrifices.
As for the boot failure issue, what have you done so far, and what Vista media are you using?

Mine won't even make a partition. It says "Can't partition external drive" But I have no external drives.

However, I would still like to get boot camp working.
My computer is a two dual core 3.0 Mac Pro and I'm trying to install Vista 64.
I use bootcamp to create the partition and I load the vista cd. Everything is working great until the computer restarts to install the vista. As soon as it restarts the computer completely locks up on a black screen (no keyboard control etc) and it had some kind of drive error. I had to hold down the power button to turn the computer off and make sure I used the option key to force it into OSX on the following startup. I've read that I need the new bootcamp drivers but I'm not sure how to install them before I load up vista.
