Hi all. I've been fine-tuning this image for a little while, I am having the hardest time finding an eye-pleasing way of isolating the subject, a giant sculpture set against a busy background. The thing is, I love the scene. I've already tried a negative halo around it to keep it bright and darken the surroundings a bit, as you see here, but it's not enough to make it really POP out. I plan on doing a giant metallic wall print of this, and I want it to really stand out. Any ideas?
Can you post the original so we can see what you're working with and offer better suggestions?? The PP on the shot above seems to make it all blend together -- it doesn't pop out at all in my opinion.
This was very quick, and doesn't exactly match your PP, but you can see what i'm going for I think. Not sure if you would like this look though. I tried to make it stand out a little with sort of a 3D look. I actually like yours better -- it's just hard to tell what the structure is.
hmmm that's not a bad idea. It looks a bit weird on the screen but in print it'll look really good. I'll keep playing around with it. Outside ideas and thinking aloud help me a lot! haha...Thanks!
I shot it in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Oh I'd LOOOVE to re-shoot and spend another week there but for now unfortunately that's the only shot I have.
The original's not bad, I'm really intent on using the faux-IR bluetones to compliment some other prints I'm going to be hanging with some strong vibrant reds. I'm quirky like that, yeah :-p
A better strategy (possibly) would be to shoot at twilight and flash the statue. If you can't separate it from the palms, the image will be very hard to read.
Its really a wild image with engaging, other-wordly procssing. I think you have achieved your goal with the last rework, assuming you are OK with the different tone. You know what you are looking for. I think derthax's re-works also succeed win separating the tree stump from the background.

Thanks, I'm very pleased with it right now, and can't wait to get it printed. It'll be more of a silver tone than blue on the subject and should pop right off the metallic print. Thanks to Derthax' and Bean's posts I arrived at that healthy mix. Any more suggestions and I'd love to hear it!
