Just an update:

The lens has now been calibrated on my 5D MK2. The AF micro adjustment feature is fabulous!

Across the zoom range and all distances? I want a camera with micro adjustment

I calibrated it using the long end but the result is achieved across the whole zoom range.

That's one reason to get the 5D MK2.

I had one, too. It had a lot of potential, but the focus was consistently off at the wide end and at infinity for all focal lengths. Made it unusable for me. I also disliked the loud AF.

I had exactly the same problem. I sent mine to Tamron for service and now it is my favorite lens on my 40D. I like the way this lens matches my shooting style on a crop sensor body so much that when I consider the great prices the 5Ds are going for these days, I think twice! Tamron's 6 year warranty makes this an easy choice.

Bottom line, I have one and love it!

I picked one up a couple months ago for $220 with the Live.com cashback...great lens. Very sharp, nice bokeh...beautiful color.

II compared my 28-75 to two copies of the 24-70L. The 28-75 beat them both in every regard except AF speed. Most notably better was its wide open corner performance. The 24-70L is a great lens, but I'm happier with the 28-75 because it's smaller and does at least as good a job so long as the job isn't shooting sports or action. (And I don't do that at 75mm.)

This lens is an absolute workhorse. Paired with a 5D it made my primes accumulate dust in the closet, not just for its superior convenience, but for its excellent IQ and

I've had the 24-70L since it came out the end of 2002. I used it quite a lot--both for commercial and my personal shooting. After carrying it (plus several other lense) for several weeks hiking in Maine, I decided the next Spring to try the 28-75. Its on my 5D almost always--or at least in my bag--I rarely use my primes either and the 24-70L languishes on the shelf. Same story--AF a bit slower in quite low light, but that's okay with me for my style of shooting.

I'm very happy with my 28-75 although I did have to send it in for erratic focussing and blooming at 75/2.8 on hight contrast edges. Both have been fixed. This is my indoor go to portrait lens (75mm/f5.6) even though I have the 85/1.8

I used to have the Tamron 28-75 at my 20D and really liked it.
But then I bought a 5D and corners at full frame showed to be quiet soft. So I bought
the EF 24-105 L IS and found it to be much better especially in the corners. I sold my
Tamron and did not miss it since then.

I happen to have the Contax 35-70mm side by side with the Tamron zoom and realised that the Zeiss lens is smaller and lighter. Of course the corners from the Zeiss are far better than the Tamron.
So if u don't need the automation, f2.8 and 28mm, the Contax 35-70mm is the clear choice.

A surprisingly good lens in all of its variations (it's actually a Cosina design, sold as Vivitar or Phoenix and also made under license by Tamron and Tokina). The best ultra-wide available new under $400.
