Sample shots of my first outing with Oly 21mm f2, wasn't a good day weather wise a winter storm was moving in and choice of subjects not that good.

Hi,
Your images reminds me about the OM21/2 I had. Exactly the same look... not surprising of course. Fun to see them!

Nice shots! Love the bokeh @ f2. I will have to compare to 17-40 @ 21/f4 to see how it stacks up.
Love the bokeh? I guess you mean you like the amount of blur showed, not that the quality of it is stellar?!

Sorry too late. Sold it about 3 months ago to Cal.
I had picked up the Zeiss 21mm ZF and Leica 19mm (early model no mirror shaving needed) so didn't need the Oly anymore. I may have been too hasty I sort of miss the litlle fellow. Oh well he is in a good home now.

Don't worry...I'm taking good care of the Oly. One of these days I'll find the time to do some proper test shots, but here's a quick one I shot look at edge performance (probably at f8)
I am about to purchase a 21mm f2 but I am not really sure about it. It's so hard to find samples and reviews on the web...
I don't really care about vignetting, all I really need is a good centre wide open performance and a good edge to edge stopped down performance (comparable to my 24-105 at least).

doesn't look very sharp to me at all, maybe you missed focus?
That's entirely possible. This was a quick shot I took just after I got the lens because I was curious about how much the performance of the lens dropped off on the edges.(I'm focusing on the fence BTW) It was handheld, and I didn't bracket the focus. One of these days, I'll do a proper test of the lens.

I have a 2.0 and 3.5 and the 3.5 is sharper at the edges, but they are equal across the rest of the frame.
Interesting. I previously owned a single coat version of the 21/3.5 and although it was a nice sharp lens, it did show a significant drop in performance at the extreme edges. My impression (based on memory, not a test), is that the f2 version has better performance at the extreme edges.

Hmmm...I remember someone else making the same claim. I did do a test, but it wasn't very scientific. I will see if I can dig it up, or do another test, but it showed almost equal performance between the two. At first I could not tell a difference between the two, but I did notice slightly weaker corners from the f2. That could be due to the effort to optimize for close focusing, or maybe it was just sample variation, but like I said, my findings have been echoed by the very few other opinions I have been able to find on the subject, other than you of course. I think Hubsand at 16-9.net found them their performance to be about the same.
So, who knows, would like to hear other's opinions on the subject as well. At the moment there aren't enough data points to make a concrete claim either way.

The zuiko beats the sigma, easily.
Lens test of both Zuikos from Modern Photography (the only magazine in the US that did decent testing) are posted as PDfs on a site I maintain:

the 21/2 is better than the 3.5 in basically all regards. I have both.

So do you reccomend it? I hear the 3.5 is not a bad lens, if the 2 is better it should be pretty awesome.
I am pretty sure I am going to get it for cheap (300$ max) is it worth it?
