I'm agonzing over needing (spending the extra dough) an AS versus a standard RX pack. Assuming I only run one head most of the time, can anyone tell me approximately how many flashes and the recycle time using anywhere from 400 to 600 WS? I would love to have asymetrical power but not sure if I really need it.
The AS pack gives you access to lower powers than the symmetrical pack. The only saving that I can see would be to buy the regular Ranger RX (versus the RX Speed), which is lighter, but then you are giving up capacity and recycling time. IMO, the Speed AS pack provides the most versatility!
I've had mine for sveral months now and I can tell you... I have yet to run the battery all the way down. Shooting in the full on Phoenix sun... I still only need to use a little more than 1/2 power or even less.... 200-300 shots easy.... with the power indicator showing 50% left. LOVE THIS THING! I only use one head BTW... recycle time is fast enough I don't think about waiting for the pack to charge.
Very pleased with the unit and the results I am getting from it. Great investment IMO.
Thanks for all your responses, exactly the info I was looking for. Now I just have to decide whether or not I need the asymetrical feature. I guess the RX will hold much of it's value if I need to upgrade. This is definitely the most knowledgeable site for studio lighting info.
