p.1 #1 · NAS Got the best of me?

I am starting to think its time to upgrade. again! That's the funny part... because I just got a D90 as a backup/everyday camera. And I only got the D2x last winter from a fellow FM'er here in Ontario. And I've had the D2h since 2005, and it has served me very well! But I really want to get a D700... the low light performance and full frame abilities are what sell me. And while I love the D2x, and its been a great camera... the D700 is newer technology, and will serve my needs just as well. It will be great for the landscape and waterfalls that I enjoy shooting throughout the year, and for events and photojournalistic style pictures that I am always taking. And I'll have the D90 as my DX format camera. I am actually even pondering whether I should keep or sell the D2h ... but I am so attached to that camera, that I think I'd keep it. Even though I don't use it nearly as much as I used to. Well.. that's it. Thoughts?

Sell 'em all and get the D700, you won't regret it.

even my D2h? .... hmm ... I have to think on that a little more. I love that camera, but ya, I don't use the D2h hardly as much as my D2x or D90. I think I might have a buyer already for the D2x.. so I'll wait to see how that pans out.

What could I get for the D2h? I have seen people selling them for $800 - I'd probably ask $750.00 but not sure its worth that much. As my D2h has the problem where it shoots a black frame upon bootup, but once you click the shutter again, it clears, and works fine.

you will enjoy the D700. I see no reasons for the D2 series anymore. I am going to post my D200 with grip this week once I get pictures of it. I see no need for it now that I have the D300. I will either save a tad bit more and dive for the D700 or get another D300 to hold me.

If you feel like you'd benefit from FX, by all means man, go for it! My advice is to hold out a bit longer... the D700 is dropping in price (already 2,319) at amazon... I recently just found on used with 7,717 clicks for 1800! It definitely is a buyer's market now a days, so I would hold out for some used bodies to pop up in the B&S or if you have the 2,300 to spare, then have at it!

I'd love to get it by the time I go winter camping.. which is January 15th. I may end up going with a local supplier here in Toronto. I am not diving into this too quickly.

You could always rent the body... Depending on how long your camping trip is

nah... If I don't get it by then, its not the end of the world. I still have the D90! Which is an awesome camera.

My D2H has not seen a battery since I put the grip on my D700. It just sits on the shelf staring back at me. The D2 series bodies could never do this at ISO 10000...

Wow! Those are superb shots! I shoot Equestrian in the summer time... and I could see the D700 with my 70-200VR doing some very similar type of work! Some of those arena's have the worse lighting!

Sell your DX gear while it's still in demand and make the move to FF. You won't look back!

I listed the D2h on CL... so we'll see if there is any interest.

D2x = 1000, D2h = 400-600 depending on condition, D90 = 800 - you could come up with $2400 selling your gear, that's enough to pick up a D700.

LX like you I was a huge proponent of my beloved D2H, and swore I'd never get rid of it. I spent more time defending the camera than anyone should have to. And I really did enjoy my time with it.

It's gone. Now I have a D700 / D300 combo and there's no looking back. Do it, you won't regret it at all. (But keep a couple EN-EL4a's for the new MB-D10 grip... )

I think anyone that is that strapped for cash should wait to buy the D700. There is some value in having a back-up, as well as having a DX camera. I would keep the D90.

I am not selling my D90.... that is NOT in the plan. The D90 was bought as a backup, and will stay as that.

i bought a d2h here this time last year, but i wasn't impressed with the shadow detail the 700 with a grip does everything the 2h is supposed to and more except a multiple times better.

Thanks. You are not kidding about the light. It was my first ever rodeo. 1/400 sec at ISO 10000 with the 300 2.8 VR mounted on the gripped D700.

Having two bodies is very useful, not only as a backup, but also to carry dedicated wide angle and tele lenses. It's incredibly convenient that you can simply reach for a different lens in a second. If I owned a D700, I'd just glue the 70-200/2.8 VR on my D300. But even my D50 as a second body is better than nothing. The weird thing is that having two SLRs in your neck is a head turner.

try 3 .. I was at an event 6 months ago... D2h with 70-200VR, D2x with 28-70f/2.8, and D70s with Tokina 12-24mm around various shoulder/neck, or in hands... that was a motherload!
