I bought a SanDisk 8GB CF for $60 then, 2 days later, saw the sale at BH and Adorama where they were $20 each after rebate. Returned the the $60 card for refund, but I had to drive 100 miles round trip to do it.
Gotta be the 40D's .. the IQ and performance is about the same as the 30D and when I bought the price was about double that of a new (refurb) 30D.
Then a month after I buy Canon introduces the 50D and knocks the resale value of 40D's down.
So I got three 40D's for $4,000 CDN less than a year ago and now they are worth maybe half that and the performance is about the same as the bodies we sold (30D's) to get them.
Second worst purchase this year was the Canon 50 1.4 ... low-light focus and focus tracking is terrible.
I'm sure all of us could cry about our memory cards selling for 1/2 or 1/4 the price within months. Instead, let's just rejoice in the cheapness of memory. Anybody remember what we used to pay?

I just have never liked it. Don't like the focal length. Mine isn't very sharp at all wide open. It's a $1100 lens that I never use. My wife (2nd shooter) uses it, but only about 10% of the time.
+2. A rather uninspiring focal length like that had better work perfectly. Mine was soft wide open, got tore up by the 1Ds3, and served to further confirm my suspicions about Nikon craftsmanship. Two weddings after buying the 24-70L, I made the switch. Now I really appreciate my gear.

CR-v3 Batteries from Wal-Mart for a Pentax ist *D body... the right batteries, for the right camera - but they didn't fit (there's a weird tab on the battery compartment)...
31.99$ worth of batteries that got tossed in the trash. AA's work just fine. baaa humbug.
Damn I did the same thing, aparently I had an old D70 battery caddy and though it was for my 20D... sigh

24-70L is THE lens that got me thinking about switching to Nikon. Coupled with 1d MarkIII, It screwed 25% of the shots from a wedding with its backfocus problem. I tested the lens before the wedding, it was fine. Apparently it backfocuses at some distances, but works fine at others. Never figured it out... Got me into thinking about reliablity of my equipment. After that I mostly used primes, but the itch for Nikon never went away! Now D3+24-70 is a totally different story!
For me, Sigma 30 1.4. I went through three copies and all had focusing issues. I finally returned the last one and was bemoaning the fact to my wife who asked if there was a comparable Canon lens. Behold the 35 1.4L!!
18-55 IS - I got it as a backup zoom lens, but its been useless so far, especially since I got a 35L which serves as a nice mutual backup with my Tamron 17-50
My 35L and 85L II are awesome IQ, but crapshoots when it comes to AF, even after calibration. I think I need a 5D2 with micro adjust
Canon 580EXII. Switches to TTL from ETTL without warning and puts out full power flashes. This has become a known issue for many users. Can't depend on it anymore, so it has become a second backup to my to original 580s that work perfectly on my three cameras.

Two sample books from Zookbinders. I made the mistake of not converting them to sRGB prior to submission, which resulted in some very nasty-looking books.
I'm surprised Zookbinders didn't work with you on this. I have screwed up orders before with them, and though I had to pay something for a replacement, it was far less than I anticipated. Zookbinder customer service has been nothing short of stellar in my experience.
1. theknot.com advertising... they messed up my profile for nearly a week, refused to credit me for the service and have really only produced 1 lead... My money is definitely better spent on bridal festivals.
2. Blurb books - They never use the same printer, cannot guarantee their margins and just suck in overall quality. Did I mention their customer service is the worst?

Buy Tupperware; you can carry & eat your lunch in that stuff.
A friend of mine actually grabbed a white rubbing alchol bottle from the local drug store, dumped out the alcohol, cut the top off, where the cap is, so that it would fit over his flash, electrical taped it on and shot models all day at one of the car shows with near perfect results... cheapest/best diffuser I've ever seen.
I didn't make any purchases in 08 but i will be making some in 09, so I'll take everyone's responses into consideration.
