p.1 #1 · Heavy Equipment

Hope this isn't too boring....

Just a couple of road graders passing in front of my home yesterday. Thought they would make some good B&W's. Bumped the contrast a bit to add to the "industrial look". Weather has been bad, so I am grabbing anything I can to image inside and out. Can you tell?

Good shots. The conversion is quite good. Perhaps the best of all worlds IMHO would have been a wider off centered crop on the first image. Perhaps more of the road out front of the grader.

Hey, Morgan,
I will concede that the subject doesn't move me much, but you have certainly done some nice conversions here.

Agreed Tim. I also wish I had stood directly in front of one of them and took a shot too.

T-bone, ha ha! Not much moving there except some dirt!

Appreciate the comments on my conversion guys. I hope my next subject(s) will be a little more dramatic!

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Dont ask me why, but when I first got a digital camera, the first thing I shot, beside family, were a series of bulldozers nearby.
Nice job with the conversions.

I'm a machinery fan so I don't find this boring at all and there is a connection to my past as well. I grew up on a secondary back road that was gravel--not much of that left around here anymore--and it was always an "event" for my brother and I when they graded the road. To get it in one pass they often worked in tandem (or even triples, sometimes) so seeing this immediately took me back more than 50 years. Nice conversions, too...

This is what I love about what we do. You just never know which of your shots will or won't connect with certain people! When it does connect like this, doesn't it feel like gold!?

Scott - Thanks for taking the time to comment, and glad it seems everyone likes the conversions. Yeah, it was one of those days where I had been cooped up and wanted to get something on (...used to say film, ha ha) digital...

Keith - Actually I am a heavy equipment nut myself, but know a lot of folks can get bored with the talk or maybe even photos of them. Many moons ago I worked for 3M in a rock quarry. I started as a "drillers helper", then driller, "Uke" (Euclid) off road dump truck driver, then before I left, I operated a Bucyrus Erie 110 shovel. I left because the dust was literally killing me, and I still feel the effects to this day. I really wish I could go back up there in the pit to get some photos of the really big stuff, but security is really tight there now, due to the explosives they keep. Glad the photos took you down memory lane!

Tim - You hit the nail on the head man! That's why I love this hobby so much. The variety to the eye is nearly infinitesimal!! It makes life even more enjoyable to have such a wonderful interest, hobby, or profession.

Thanks all.
