The CZ 35mm 1.4 is an amazing lens for what it's worth. I'm actually looking to get out of 35mm and would be willing to sell mine if you feel that you want to really upgrade.

between, the nikkor 35/1.4 ai-s and 35mm summicron, which is the better @ f/2?
i am leaning towards the cron, but the ai-s has that extra stop of light. so i guess my question is that extra stop of light worth it, versus performance.
The 'cron's better at f2, but for Summicron money there are other options like the ZF. If I was looking for an f2 lens I'd grab the Voigtlander 40/2, which is superb at f2 and costs much less than anything else which can match its performance at f2.

The Nikkor 35/1.4 is mind blowing at f/2.8!
Agreed, it's stellar at f2.8 and smaller. f2 is probably its only real weak spot as it's still soft in the corners at that point, but the distinctive look of the wide-open lens is gone. That said, f2's a great aperture for portraits with the 35/1.4 as the bokeh is at its best and it's quite sharp in the centre.
Hello all. I was looking for a small, fast and slightly wide prime for a travel lense. I've stuck at the 35mm focal length (love it! perfect for my photgraphy style) but I have yet to make a purchuse. I'll be using it on a 5D, I've concidered the Canon 28 1.8, 35 f/2 and the Nikkor AI-S 35mm f/1.4.
If I choose the Nikkor, how would I use it on my 5D? Are there any good websites that explain how to use Nikkor lenses on an EF mount? Which are good adapters? Do I need to do any sawing of the lense before I use it? Can it really hit the 5D mirror?
Well it depends on what you are looking for, but for a 5D for everyday use, yes. I've had both, and both are great. If nothing the 28/1.8 is much more practical!
Well I got the 28 1.8 used and its just as the reviewers say. Sort of unsharp below 2.8, corners are mush but at 2.8 and above it shines. At 4 and 5.6 its totally sharp.
Corners going mush aren't such a problem, often when I'm shooting at 1.8 the thing in focus is rarely in the corners, making it quite a moot issue. The lens build quality is much nicer than I thought. Really quite sturdy even though it's made of plastic.
