Unbelievable detail there Tim! dude you shot these at 1/200s handheld, no IS at 400mm you're a human tripod...or a$$pod when you're yakin'
Interesting bump they have on their forehead! European coots don't have it must be an american thingy
Great shooting on these buddy..i'll go w # 2 as fav.

Thanks Nello!! I'm some sort of pod, that's all I'm saying Not sure about the bump, I never noticed it until I was looking at these. I didn't set out to shoot these guys it just kind of happened.

Wow Tim. Never knew Coots had so much interesting detail. There was a flock of them on the lake here last weekend, must have been a hundred or more together, never saw anything like it before as they are so territorial. Will be looking at them differently next time I go out.
Martin

Thanks Martin! You never know where you will find something interesting.

MaggieBee wrote:
Tim, the details are amazing, colors are amazing and true. You should give me your 50D for a week so I can try it out

Sure Maggie, we'll swap, your mklll for my 50d

Thanks for the kind words.

Tim,
That is one of the best Coot images I've seen!

Great portraits, Tim. Interesting how far up on the head the beak extends.

Thank you Tony. I find it interesting how we can learn things from common animals just by taking their picture.

Tim, that Coote chicken is as sharp as she can be.....which testifies to your good hand, perfect exposure and a fine copy of the lens.

Thanks PetKal! I am quite pleased with this lens

Great Job Tim, crisp, well detailed capture I think Canon should use your photos to sell 50D not what they have posted.

On my last post you stated

7 nice but too tight on the right, nit nit nit
8 You have to nail a shot like that, too plain, too ordinary. It really has to pop. Well if it was a newbie I would say nicer things. Sorry my friend you are not a newbie and you are way better.

Let's talk about Plain and Let's talk about Tight Cropz.
I see you don't practice what you preach my friend.

Nitt NITT

I would say I would expect much more from you
Coots with tight crops and bad angles
Looks like your looking down on them nit nit
Cropz as said are a bit tight nit nit
Number 2 and 3 are much like my goose shot that you said was to tight of a crop. But you did the same thing
I don't get how you can NItt NItt on my shotz but then you do the exact same thing

You crack me up

Yes these are not shot from the lowest angle, they are of the lowest angle available at the time.

If you think they are too tight, fine they are too tight for you.

If you want to compare them to your goose, your goose had a bunch of room behind the neck on next to none in front of the nose. That's the difference, not the exact same as you claim. I'm not saying mine is any better, just different.

Glad I crack you up. It's the least I can do.

Tim

Thanks Ray! These weren't friendly birds, these guys were pretty wild. I caught him from a hiding position, only got off a couple of shots.
