p.1 #1 · Gongga the holy mountain

My first post in the forum

At 7,556m or 24790ft, Mt. Gongga (also known as Minya Konka) is the highest mountain in the Sichuan Province of China (struck by the devastating earthquake earlier this year...)

To the left of Gongga, there are some lesser 6000m peaks

Yala, another holy mountain in Tibetan Buddhism. Although the lighting is a bit boring, the shape of the mountain is kind of interesting.

Yala from a farther and higher vantage point. The weather was dull, but the clouds caught my attention.

Equipment: Canon 5D and EF 70-200 f/4 IS

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking

Welcome to the forum, vario.

Looks like a fabulous subject and the lighting on the mountain is superb. The black lower half, however, very much distracts from the image. Another vantage point would have produced a much stronger image.

I'm looking forward to other images from your country, particularly of this magnificent mountain.

Wow - the background in this shot is spectacular! Excellent lighting, beautiful location, and gorgeous clouds. I'd remove the foreground completely - it's doing nothing for you at all. Welcome!

Great shot vario. I agree with the others regarding the black foreground but the light on the mountains is excellent

Wonderful atmospheric image, and quite a spectacular view.
I like the little bit of silhouetted fg now, less obtrusive and still offers terrific depth to the bg mtns.

Welcome to the forum, Vario. Excellent and moody image, with a wonderful view of the mountains in great light.

I didn't see the uncropped version, but this works OK; with enough foreground, sloping into the corner, to work compositionally. I would like to see the view Don suggests, from higher up, eliminating that piece of foreground and exchanging it for the other side of the slope. Hopefully you will show more of these dramatic mountains, as well as other shots from China.
