don't bother setting up another forum, the web is littered with them already. between here, MFlenses, Manualfocus.org - there's plenty of choices already.
I like the current alt forum with the wide range of cross pollination of threads, ideas, modifications, image posts, ramblings etc. Not so sure if slicing the pie into thinner slices is a good thing or not.

I'm not thinking an exclusive Rokkor forum, and I surely appreciate the diversity around here as well. It just seems that a place for lens conversion/modding might fill a bit of a void. As of now, there are a few of us sprinkled about the various internet sites. It might be nice to concentrate the efforts, discussions, methods, etc. on one site.
Paul, if you want to do this let me know: I do web design on the side. It would be a matter of picking the right CMS or bulletin board and designing some kind of interface...
If enough folks used the site then ads would pay the bills...
There is also a site called minman, I think its on yahoo groups. I don't dare speak about conversions there though, its strictly a manual focus film minolta group. I have done alot of reading, trying to gather opions on lenses.
My thought was not to start a new forum elsewhere though, but to subdivide alt gear by manufacturer.

Thanks Max,
I've run CMS/BBS systems on this box before (a winemaking forum, a personal page, etc.), so php/MySQL etc. is already there. I'd just need to choose a good, solid BB system. I haven't looked at them in ages. What's the status of the open source BBs out there these days? Any advice?
I have no bills associated with the server, so it could remain ad-free.
MODx is a cool Ajax CMS (Content Management System) and not a BB though...
The MODx forum community uses the Simple Machines' SMF BB platform which is why I sent you there...
I am a part time designer and I am drawn to MODx as it is very flexible yet powerful when it comes to creating your own design first, using valid XHTML code and then pouring it into the MODx framework. Other CMS platforms make you work with hacking themes etc.

But Whoa! This is going way, way off topic...

Yeah, I see that now. I've used phpBB, phpNuke, PostNuke etc. and I know all too well how fun it is to grep through php files looking for some colour HEX code or image filename so I could customize the colour of something or replace a logo. Reverse engineering is fun though, and the only option for a hack like me.
I'm still getting mixed feelings about a lens modding forum, though, so I'm going to hold off for a while.

That's just because, now that the 5DII is here, he has to consider changing his name.
haha no way. I will be getting a D700 next month.
5DII is an impressive camera, although like Paul pointed out i have just grown tired of adapting/converting lenses. There IS still good conversation on this board, which is why i stick around- and to spread what i do know if possible.
