A friend of mine recently picked up a 5D mk2 and we had the chance to quickly put them side by side and compare.

Lenses used: Canon 24-70L, Nikon 24-70

No PP, just opened in ACR and saved to JPEG

All at ISO3200 (click on image to see full-res)

The 5D II seems to have less noise, more accurate WB and it retained more detail in the blacks....IMHO

All look great but I am surprised to see the Nikon's white balance so off. Thanks for posting this!

Agreed. What's up with this? Did you set manual white balances or something... with RAW, this should have been corrected.

I like the 1D3 WB and colors as the other two looks a little lifeless.
The D700 seems to be a green monster

i found the text to be marginally easier to read on the d700 image. not sure if it's a difference in lens, sensor or focusing method/ shooting technique. if you look at the tag anti-perspirant, it's the "invisible solid" text.

All 3 cameras were set to auto white balance. No color or exposure corrections were made to the jpeg posted.

Color wise, the 1d3 rendered the scene the closest.

Simon, the center af points were focused on the listerine bottle. IMO, the D700 has smoother 'grain' than the 1D3...

The D700 isn't mine.
And there's nothing wrong with it. There's a slight camera shake in the image posted above due to the cheap tripod we were using.

the 1DIII's WB is awesome here. The 5DII unsurprisingly shows the most details, as I see it, and the D700 has the least chroma noise. The 1DIII is somewhere between them, noise wise.

Agree, Nikon seem having this tipical grinish/ugly look.

The 1D3 is awsome for a 10mpx camera... 5D2 looks great as does the D700 but whats up with the AWB...

This is more to do about ACR than white balance. Calibrate the camera (5DM2) for ACR and it will be correct...or wait for Adobe to do it for you in a newer update.

If these were shot raw, which sounds like they were.
