Really havent done any portraits before. Sports wildlife are my thing. Forced to use the speedlight too today. I liked these. CC welcome
The third on my computer and in prints the childs face is better exposed.
i prefer number 2 as well. it appears to be natural light, possibly from a window to frame left. however, if i can be critical, i don't like the low shutter speed used here. there's a bit too much motion blur in different parts of the photo for my taste. but, then i often shoot in a studio.
I like the interaction, but I really think these suffer from motion blur. I just think the shutter speed was too slow for such low light and a moving child.
The comments are well taken.Ive already asked myself how I didnt notice how slow my shutter speeds were. I was chimping like a mad man. I dont often do this type of photography and did this as a favor. I was having to use the speedlight and turned it off and uped the iso but wasnt looking at the shutter speed. I already have arranged to reshoot the natural light set. I have alot more respect for studio and event photogs after doing this. The dof required and lighting certainly pose challenges that I never had to deal with.
Agree with Jim R, number 1's WB needs to be a good 500-1000K less.
Other than that I like them, the motion blur doesn't detract IMHO, only thing I can think of for improvement would have been more seperation between subject and the christmas tree, and using a longer and/or faster lens to really throw it out of focus to make some lovely big and bright OOF highlights.
