I have some raccoon shots that are very similar in the sense of "stuff" being in the way. I don't think that is a problem, that is how it is. When these guys are in the wild that is what they do, always have something between them and the other guy, in this case you.

This one's special to me, as I was out shooting one afternoon with Mr Zoom. Good friends and great light make this
personal endeavor all that much more enjoyable. D3 200-400 f4 VR BushHawk
OK, first up - - I know Laura said to try to stick to one photo..... But I don't know how.... it's like rejecting a child to me.... (I am just way too close to my photographs....
So I humbly offer these..... this thread is just amazing & everyone have put in fantastic shots....

One of my mentors is a professional photographer in Canada - so when Yves told me I had figured out "impact" (which I was struggling with) with this shot on DPR it became an instant favorite...
Wow!! it's so hard to choose, before I post mine though I would like to say that I have so enjoyed all of the images Iv'e seen on Fred's site this year.
We have some amazing talent and fun on here, great photographers awesome sence of humors and well just a great community of people, I just wish I had more time to post.
Thanks Laura, thanks everyone for sharing your work and a Very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful photographic new year to all.
I too have been in hibernation for much of 2008 and for a very long time from FM. I always browse but rarely post. I have always enjoyed this thread and once again the imagery posted for 2008 is simply outstanding. For me the choice was easy. This little Avocet chick was a joy to photograph and the little wing flap did me in.
All such beautiful work! What a great crew of photographers here! Pictures tell a thousand words...
Tough decisions I'm sure. Sometimes what are my favs are not always the best photo. Hard to decide! I chose this one because it has a story behind it. I was contacted by the wildlife specialist involved with the nesting in San Diego, and he was thrilled she was doing so well at Bolsa Chica. Meet Volley, the Peregrine, and another unbanded Peregrine from BC:[that makes 3 from BC, the other, Portia also located by it's rehab specialist.
First post here. Ive been lurking around for the past week trying to learn more about photography.
The quality of photos coming out of your cameras has me amazed. I dont know how all of you do it. The colors, composition, exposure...It has me shocked! I feel like I am at the location at your side. Im a wildlife major and been jobs and exploring i have been in the field so many times to see awesome things that I wish I had a nice camera for.
I can no longer deal with my point and shoot and will soon be upgrading to a DSLR. You guys make me very jealous and are an inspiration for me.
This was shot this summer working on Three Lakes WMA in central FL on my Kodak 6490.
This is a beetle a loggerhead shrike pierced into the fence. they lack talons like raptors so they pierce their prey on fences, thorns...
What fantastic images everyone. These "best of" threads are always my favourite, so much photographic goodness in one place! Well the year is not over yet so I hope to get some more good images.
My favourite of the year was my very first post on FM after being a long time lurker. This was very special to me because I was out looking to get a shot of a hummer in action and after much patience I witnessed this momma land on her nest, which incidently I didn't realize was there until she landed on it because they are so small and well camouflaged!
This is an inspiring post for sure. It is nice to see some of these come back up and be favorites as I remember many of them and thought they were spectacular. Excellent work and a great deal of dedication to get many of these shots has paid off wonderfully.................I sure hope to see many more being added
Special thanks Laura for the beginning of this thread
