I have a 40D that I just picked up to replace my 20D. I have always used the * button to focus. I know that the 40D now has a AF button on the back, but I can't seem to train myself to use it(or reach it). Is there a CF that I can use to change AF from the deadcated button to the * button? I've read the manual and I'm just becoming more confused. Please help me with my brain fart. I promise to light a match
Mike
I've got AF on * for my 40D. I have C.FnIV.2 (Operation/Others) "AF-ON/AE lock button switch" set to ENABLE, and C.FnIV.1 (Operation/Others) Shutter buttonAF-ON" switch set to 2 "Metering start/Meter+AF start.
Heh, I was using a friend's 30D that was configured to do that, a bit weird for me at first... Oh well, I only use a near-entry-level Rebel XSi, so I have excuse to still use the half shutter click for focusing...
Ha! You're not the first one to feel this way...after about 12 years of using an EOS-1n with the the * set for focus via the custom functions, I'm in the same boat.
But, Canon's not going back so I'm trying to get used to the "new" AF-ON button.
However, I'd wish they'd move the DOF preview button back to the location it was on the 1n, you could wrap your hands around the lens but easily actuate it with the pinky.
Nowadays... it requires some hand gymnastics, at least for me.

XSi has that option as well as the XT, XTi before it.
