Several small flocks of 5-16 these finch like birds have been visiting the area to breed, feed and for shelter.



Though these are quite small crops of the original image I am pretty pleased how they turned out.


40D +400mm hand held in natural late afternoon light.

Yes the light has been very good at that time in the late afternoon.

These were quite tricky to shoot given these bullrushes are thick and the stems they are gripping are much lower than the leaves of the rushes. Also, I am standing on a boardwalk over which dogs and humans pass by every few minutes and hence disturb the birds - mostly the Mannikins stay out of range.
