p.1 #1 · Canon Angle Finder C or 3rd Party?

I'm looking to pick up a right angle finder for my 1D cameras (1 Mark II and 2 1D Mark I) and was wondering if anyone has used any of the 3rd party offerings out there and if they are any good?

I am only going to use to setup basketball remotes so I really don't see myself spending $250 on the Right Angle Finder C because I would be using it only for b-ball and maybe for football occasionally (doin' the Peter Read Miller thing..). However, if it is far superior to the 3rd party ones than I am not against buying the Canon C.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think any of them will do given your reason. I use the Minolta version (it's at the house and I can't remember the model...VN maybe?) which fits EOS bodies like a glove at half the price.

Heck, even the cheap-o evilBay version would probably work.

Neither. Get the Canon Angle Finder B. I got one in like-new condition for well under $100. I think the only advantage you get with the C is adjustable magnification.

I have the C and I find it's useful for landscape, portraits, etc when I'm on the tripod, but it's pretty much useless for sports... the magnification works but I have to adjust the diopter every time so it's a slow process...

I bought the angle finder C for the magnification reason but found that feature pretty much useless due to the diopter issue. Itīs been collecting dust ever since. I guess sometimes you just have to spend some money in order to truly find out.

I have that issue (having to adjust the diopter after switching magnification) with my Seagull angle finder (i.e. a Chinese unit via eBay).
I had been telling myself that that's what I got for not paying for a "real" (Angle Finder C) finder. But apparently not!

The 3rd-party units tend to come with a range of eyepiece adapters for different models/brands. I found that the one for 30D/40D/5D/etc bodies has to be wiggled a bit to try to get the finder close to centred on the camera's finder, but it's bearable.

you might find a zigview more useful; now they have one with a remote screen on it...
