p.1 #1 · Springtail on the slide

Shots of what turned out to be a female on a glass slide. Great fun trying to herd one of these onto the slide (not!).

A shortcut to insanity!

The first shot shows a good selection of Collembolan diagnostic structures.

We keep seeing this one. Did you hand rear and train it?

Nice ones Brian. Like the first, it really shows the underside well, a view not normally seen.

Thanks for the comments

Fraid I like these globular springtails and they are just reaching full size now - this one was just over 2 mm long . Frans is after an underbelly shot of a male but unfortunately I can't tell the sex of them until I get the pics on the PC.

Oh! The things we do when there's getting to be less easily available to shoot. So, Brian, herding springtails is kinda like herding cats?

Nice shots, BTW; last frame is a standout.

Thanks Kenny
Well at least you are not likely to squash the cat

Apart from liking these little bugs, the flickr expert on these likes to give me challenges every now and then - what I'm supposed to be trying to do is take shots of the underneath of a mature male globular springtail. Unfortunately i can't tell the sex of them until I've got the pics on the PC

Really awesome colouring on this bug. Looks a lot like the 'disruptive' computer-generated camo pattern used by the military!
