The 50D shows it's stuff again - with a little help from Tom. Tom, I have been keeping up with the threads on the 50D, and they can be downright scary. I also see quite a few 50Ds for sale already in the B&S forum. But you have consistently posted outstanding shots with it. Have you had to change the way you shoot or pp to get these results?
Thanx,
Ron
Thank you Ron.
I've also been watching the 50D threads on a variety of forums since day one. I see many who are struggling with the new body and just as many that have given up. I'm at a loss as to what the problem is because so far, I'm not experiencing the myriad of issues I've seen posted. Yes 15 mega pixels invites more noise but compared to my 40D at similar settings, it's not that big a difference. Dealing with noise is a fact of life with the current sensors and that's what PP is for.
Having said that, the last thing I want is for someone, especially any of my friends on this forum, to go buy a 50D based on my images. I've been lucky with the bodies and lenses I've purchased to date but it's a crap shoot to be sure. Even the flag ship body (Mk III) is not immune from problems as we've all seen since it's introduction. I will continue to learn and experiment with my 50D and try to produce the best images I can with it and if I encounter any show stoppers rest assured I'll share the info here on FM.

I love the detail on all of them. Would like to see a reply to surfnron's question.
I have the 40D and looking to how to best use the 50D and maybe its extra crop. In any case as said you have proven that sensor is doing a "The Job" with that lens.
I noticed you where at 5.6 on most? Low light?
Keith
Hello Keith, thanks very much for the kind words
I've definetely noticed a difference compared to my 40D on cropping. For those shooting at 400mm I think it will make a big difference detail wise. Please know that is just my opinion based on my experience so far with both bodies
The light was terrible for this shoot so yes I was at f/5.6 for most of the shots. I have some at f/7.1 and ISO 320 that didn't turn out too bad. The weather this morning was glorious and I hope to share some of those images this evening.

Gee, Tom, and I thought I was out of control when I shot 4 gigs of a cooperative RTH However, fantastic shots and love the close-ups showing the killing part of the machine.
P.S. Bring on the gore
Ken
Many thanks Ken This one is very photogenic I must admit. He has great coloring for such a young one.
As requested, gore shots forthcoming. (tonight if I can get time to process)
Heck yeah, that would RAWK my friend. Let's make a plan and I'll show you where he/she hangs out to hunt. Gonna be nice this week the weather man is sayin
Or, if you head out solo, PM me and I'll direct you to the lair

Sweeeeeet. I know how you feel shooting mega GB's. I shot aroud 24-32 GB's a day at Conowingo Dam, but that's 10 fps pretty much all day long.

Wow, fantastic images, Tom. Amazing detail in all. Last January, I had a similar experience with a young redtail. What an adrenaline rush to be so close.
