I'm thinking about buying lens as a walk-around and maybe street photography too... but due to the economy BS in Iceland prices has gone way up and I'm left with about $500 budget.
I'm also thinking about Tamron 17-50 but none of the local dealers have it and I want the lens preferable quick and with warranty.
One of local dealer has these from Sigma (any comments on those?):
17-70mm F2.8-4,5 macro
18-50mm f 2.8 EX macro
18-125 mm f 3,5-5,6 DC OS
24-60mm f 2.8 EX DG
24-70mm f 2.8 EX DG MACRO
28-70mm f 2.8 EX DG
28-70mm f 2.8-4
Can you give me your opinion on the Nikon 18-105 VR ?
I would go either for a fast lens or for a VR lens. The Tamron is my favorite in the first category and any of the recent VR lenses in that range can be recommended:
18-200VR - my favorite for the versatility
16-85VR - excellent IQ and range but a bit expensive
18-105VR - good affordable compromise (plastic mount, good IQ, nice range and nice price)
In other words, among your suggestions I would go for the 18-105VR if you are on a budget. The 24, 28-ish lenses are too long on the wide side for walk around lenses.

I use a Sigma 28-80 macro for my walk around lens very frequently, depends on mood and style of shooting.
18-105vr would make a nice walk around though. I wish my 18-135 had vr. The 55-200vr is another really nice sharp cheap lens but I feel that it's to long on the short end sometimes.
I've had an 18-105VR for about a month now, and I've been very pleased with it. My careful tests show it to be sharper than the famed (and expensive) 17-55 in the center, though the color rendition is not quite as good. It has better IQ than the 18-200VR (I have two of those), but the VR is not quite as effective. The 18-105VR with the D60 has been my light hiking combo since I got it, replacing my D200 and 28-105.
