p.1 #1 · Canyonlands Trio

I've been to the White Rim in Canyonlands and back again. I processed these three photos last night and thought they might be worth sharing. For any interested in the whole trip log, I've posted a Travel Log of the White Rim Trail at my site too. It was a combination bike trip and road trip.

#1 From Monument basin just after the sun had left the FG towers but was still making the BG glow.

#2 near the road headed towards Airport Tower, I found this patch of color.

#3 The "walking rocks" near Musselman Arch

Oh, the 1st!! Just an excellent capture, Gordon. Love the deeeeeep layers in this, and the range of light, from shadowed fg to beautifully lit bg.....fantastic!

I love those "kissing rocks" in Monument Basin. You caught it just right.

Some of the light is so harsh out there it's hard to be right in the right place at the right time from a photography standpoint.

Thanks Craig,
I thought I was too late when I got there, but used a ND grad and shot what I could and brought some of the shadows out last night with PS curves/etc. When I was shooting, I really thought I was too late and that it was just a scouting trip for the next morning's shoot. But this is why everyone says to shoot alot, because you might come away with more than meets the eye.

Hey Gordon,

Very nice. I like the lower perspective in #1. Good job on exposing for that. #2 is my favorite here, I really like the foreground in it.

I love the white rim. The "white" characteristic, and the walking rocks, make it a very unique place.

Looks like Manila smog in that sky.

I had forgot about that. The slide show was great!

Did you have any gnat problems? Looks like it was pretty cool weather.

I think you've got some really nice shots worth posting here, especially the Green River and sunrise shots.

There was actually a fire in Moab the night before we started our trip. The sky was foggy/smoky for that reason. Our hotel had to be evaculated at 11PM because of the fire. Here's a picture:

No gnats. Cool at night. About 60-65 during the day, but sunny and warm. 35 at night was very cold, but we were prepared with warm gear. Thanks for looking at my travel log too. I'll post some more of them here as the days go by.
