These were taken two weeks after my last post, I was amazed at how much the trees had changed in two weeks. Upon returning I found many of the leaves were well past peak color, and many had just turned brown and fallen off. According to the ranger I spoke with, there had been very little rainfall this year in the canyon, and that was to account for the poor showing.
To top it all off, they were doing a controlled burn a little north of the main canyon. The first day I got there the canyon was so filled with smoke that I couldn't even see Cable Mountain or The Great White Throne when I was standing at Big Bend. I left the camera in the car and brooded.
The next day some of the smoke was clearing out in the narrower part of the canyon, so I just hung out at the Temple of Sinawava and focused on the pockets of color. These trees have a more constant source of water and I imagine it would be much more difficult to keep them from dazzling the eye.
#1 Since I was grumpy I went to my favorite spot to start the day. This is probably the third time I've posted a variation on this area, but this shot is a little different than the others I've posted. http://sacredcliffs.com/forums/_MG_6068.jpg
Really good set, Derrick. I always love the red/yellow color contrasts there in the fall, and this is no exception. I think the 2nd may be my fave of these, by a small margin
Not enough variation to keep me from thinking that they are all basically the same image. I'd be happier if you picked the one that most defined your experience and presented that one.
Nice series, Derek. You've got some fine...fine images on your gallery. My favs here are the 1st and last. The zion fall colours I think in the first image really define your experience well.
Thank you for the kind comments, my only goal here has been to share with you my enjoyment of the park. I'm glad this has been possible, for the most part.
