Which case should I chose a an carry on case for destination weddings. My dealer told me it has to fit within 55,9x35,1x22,9 cm, which leaves the Pelicase 1510 only 9 mm too big.
Which case do you use.

I use the Pelican 1510 as my carry-on. All airlines have a little bit different size & weight limits. But no one will stop you if it's only 9mm to big. You should maybe worry about the weight limit instead.
I also fly from Kastrup a lot
Yes I know, the next issue is weight, because a bigger case eat up more weight and leave less for our equipment, so it is a matter of finding the golden solution - and business class is too expensive

99% of the time the airlines don't check the weight of the carry-on. Or you have to weight it together with the checked-in luggage. So it's normally not any problem. But to stay within the weight limit for the carry-on is impossible if you gonna bring some equipment. And even more impossible if you use a Pelican case that is over 6kg empty.

Yep you are right, but I would not like to send my equipment, because a small case like that can easy get lost.
On Pelis homepage the say that the size is exactly what is allowed as carry on.
Yes the size it ok with most international flights. But the case weight over 6kg empty. So you will always exceed the weight limit. And that's ok with most airlines if you don't have to much check-inn luggage also. But you can never be 100% sure
I would strongly dispute 99% of the time there is no problem! I've had my Peli 1510 put in the hold 4 times (Air France, SN Brussels)... The case itself is fantastic, but check in staff see the bag and while the size is fine, they sense how heavy it is. I have a client who sometimes pays for business for long trips, so I've managed to keep it with me on occasion. But that's pretty rare.
My worst experience was the first time I was told to check it in--I had got through the first check in, but a policeman checking exit visas prior to boarding told me to check it. I almost had a heart attack. I politely (but firmly) stood my ground and eventually he gave in. I think the only thing that got me out of that one was that I had a BBC visitor's pass on the inside of my passport wallet from meeting someone a few weeks prior. I assume he thought I was working for the BBC and didn't want to make a fuss (I do know someone who has a roll of 'Red Cross Emergency Supplies' tape and uses that for delicate stuff, not that I condone that).
Aaanyway, back to the case. I suggest getting 2 big padlocks--check the size for the eyes in the case--and a big foldable cloth bag. Whenever I'm forced to check the bag, I bolt it shut, and stick it in as filthy an old bag as I can find and hope for the best. Been ok so far! (bag was once seized in Mozambique, but got it out of customs thanks to a good facilitator). If you don't need the locks and the bag, that's all the better...
Best of luck with your travels! Hope I haven't put your blood pressure up...
Actually I have had my case gate checked a few times now as it did not fit the metal basket at the check in counter!
(air canada, United and AA)
According to the new standard the case is half an inch (10 cm me thinks) too long.
AC's measurements are 21.5"x15.5"x9" for domestic and international flights.
in all three flights I had to engage in a very polite conversation and suggest gate checking it and the airline staff agreed.
The other problem I've noticed with the 1510 is that it "looks" industrial and heavy, and usually peeks airline staffs interest. I'm heavily thinking of going over to something like a Think Tank airport international as it looks more in line with regular carry-on luggage. (though I do like the peace of mind of traveling with Pelicans).
anyways, that's my findings.
am
I think I will buy it - because it is nice - and then hope the best.
Conors idea with the old bag is good and then maybe some kind of insurrance, then it should be ok if I also bring my G9 arround my neck as backup
I could also just ask a nice eldery lady to swop handluggage undtil we have passed the checkpoint, because it is unbeliveable what amount of bags they manage to bring onboard
Strange that the messurements are not the same all over.
The same goes for weight. In january I am going to The Phillipines, where I will take a domestic plane and on the route to Puerto Princesa the weight limit is 15 kg. On other flights to smaller places the limit is 10 kg.
I fly with the 1600. Always bring it in as carry on. If I have to check it at the plane then so be it. I just leave it locked and it comes to me right at the airplane door, so i'm not too worried.
