p.1 #1 · JC Penny using D2X

Went and had the obligatory family Christmas photo done at JC Penny's photo studio, and discovered that they are using D2X cameras (Ken Rockwell reported D3X), and it was sort of nice to see the Nikon camera.

THey were. After all, Kenny is never wrong. They just disguised their cameras.

For the record, Rockwell reported what someone else said he saw and Rockwell also said he was skeptical of the accuracy of the report.

Well if there are prototype models out for pro's to test thats feasible since the sensor already exists, what's not feasible is JC Penny using a non released camera body. Unless secretly the greatest photogs in the world work at JC Penny...

JC Penny, Sears, Wal Mart, etc need to start charging something for their packages. These "1000 portraits for $8" (or whatever) packages make it harder for real portrait studios to get clients in the door. I can't even print the the amount of portraits for the prices they advertise, let alone make any profit. I guess they are just trying to bring people into their stores, but still...

Just because they are charging very little for their photos, doesn't mean they are in the wrong for doing so. It's their gear, they can charge how they see fit.

IMO I see it in car terms. My car breaks down, I have the tools and knowledge to fix it myself. Do I fix it myself (myself being JC Penny in this case) or bring it to a mechanic (stand-alone photographer) who will charge ALOT to do the same job? i dont know about you but I like to save my money.

p.s.
after rereading my post, it might have sounded like I directed it at you Zookroo, but I did not mean it that way. So its nothing personal, except my opinion. its directed at the whole pricing scene I guess.

As a photographer you hire a photographer to do your work, Amazing how different a creative portrait looks compared to a Sears/ JCPenny quasiportrait.

I think it has more to do with it than that. Its the whole Santa thing, and being apart of it.

I didn't see him mention santa, i thought it was a yearly family portrait that a lot of families do around Christmas time.

I for one am glad JC Penny's exists. They are one of the few places that sell inexpensive colored argyle socks...

Sounds like they are also a good place to send people that want a $15 portrait.

I'd do it myself, but Penny's gave the wife a credit card, and a picture club card, so she wants to use it. I just have to say "Yes Dear" "That looks fine dear", and "No, it does not make your thighs look big dear". She wants the Christmas photos done at Penny's with their backdrop, who am I to argue. Married guys understand that you pick your battles, this was not one to pick. Otherwise I would end up photographing her friends daughters Quinceneras for ever for free......
