To make a long story short, I've been discussing what parts I needed with Bogen and a retailer and I was told I could buy the Bogen Micro Ballhead and the flash shoe designed for the magic arm to create the same thing (see parts at links below).
Admittedly, I couldn't figure out from the pictures how these two pieces would connect, but I figured when I held them in my hand it would make more sense. HOWEVER, I (of course) looked for a more frugal solution (since purchasing those components was almost as expensive as simply ordering a Justin Clamp w/FS) and instead purchased a Giottos BH that, based on available specs, seemed to have all the same components/sizes of connection points, etc as the Bogen (see link below).
Now, I finally have the parts in hand and I REALLY can't figure out how they connect. In fact they don't, as I initially suspected and should have trusted. Anyway, my question is this - from looking at the picture of the Justin Clamp, I just can't make out enough of how they mated the two components. Does anyone have one they can look at more critically and let me know how they did it? Even pictures if that would help illustrate? I'm wondering if I can make these pieces work, or if I need to purchase a different flash shoe to mount to the ball head.
