Hey Phillip, thanks for posting these. I assume they are shot wide open; could you load some stopped down to, say f2 or 2.8.. thanks.

All were shot wide open except for the ones of the little girl. Those were shot @ f/2.8

The Nikkor 50/1.4 isn't bad, but it's not all that much of a performer as 50's go, with frankly poor performance at wide apertures. The Sigma's an extremely exotic design (Aspherical elements in a 50 are unusual. Of the current crop of 50-58mm's only the Leica Summilux-R and the Canon 50/1.2L use aspherical elements) and performs incredibly well wide-open, better than pretty much any fast 50 other than the other aspherical designs or the Zeiss ZF 50/2 Makro-Planar.

The Nikkor 50/1.4 however is outperformed at wide apertures by most current 50/1.4's. It gets quite good at f4 and higher though. Not

I understand. Negative experiences will do that. It's a shame, 'cause Sigma's primes are rather good. It's their zooms that are iffy.

Just got mine today. Smokin' sharp. Didn't even have to adjust the AFfine tune. 2 micro dust specks but it's sigma after all. Can't wait to let her loose tomorrow.

I'm so tempted to pick this lens up but with the Nikon AF-S right around the corner I feel like it would be stupid not to wait and see what it has to offer.

The Sigma 1.4's are only DX lenses right?

I hope sigma picks up nikons slack and makes a fast, wide FX lens.

Pictures look beautiful - colors and sharpenss are excellent.
Not sure about the bokeh in the first picture though -- Is that considered good bokeh (?) definitely circular though..

I wish that I had purchased image posting capabilities. To follow up, I love this lens. I have been searching for some low light DoF magic and here it is. I just didn't love the Nikon 50 or 85 1.4 lenses. This definitely isn't close to my sorely missed 85L, but it will get me through until someone comes out with something else that kicks ass on FF. It just made me smile to open up the box and find a hood and a case included. Here's to hoping that Sigma can come out with a sweet 85 1.4 (or 1.2 ) as good as this one.

I think the only lens that will be more appealing to me than the 85L II would be the Nikon 200mm F2

I believe the new nikon is going to be in the same price range as the sigma. Basically, they are reconfiguring it to be sharp on the wide end and speeding up the af. I believe I read that it will still be an 8 bladed aperture whereas the sigma is a nine. I don't think there will be any distinct advantages to the nikon as the mtfs on the sigma are as good as it gets.

I just got mine, and first impressions are very good. I have not used the nikon, but its much sharper than the canon version wide open. And I'll ditto the other poster in saying that focus seems to be spot on.

I've been happy with all my sigma primes.
