It's still a little too early to tell. The effect won't really be seen until late 2009 and early 2010. All the weddings happening now and through March/April/May busy season were all booked before Lehman collapsed and people started worrying. It's the people who have weddings planned 6-8 months or more from today who will be scaling back.

12 I hope. I haven't noticed a decrease in phone calls, but I have noticed an increase in the "bargain shopper". But I don't think this is as much to do with the economy as it is to do with the changing wedding industry, i.e. the craigslist digital click and burn lowballer.

I have 20 booked for next year, and would like to add a few more. Definitely people are looking to spend less than $3000 in the midwest market, and most are around $2000.

72? How is that possible?
Either creative math.....or multi shooter organization. Remember people can claim whatever they want on these forums. The reality may be something different entirely. Also, some areas have a lot of 1hr coverage weddings.....so you could do 4-5 in a day. But its not the same coverage as a typical 8hr event. Still people claim them as full weddings for this sort of thread, even though they are little more than an extended portrait sitting. With little more than 47-48 realistic saturdays.....and only so many folks interested in friday or sunday events; extravagant claims on the number of events can only have so many logical reasons. Its either a bunch of small events....or they have multiple shooters, or they are simply making up numbers.

Well....in many areas the financial crisis started long before Lehman collapsed.....like more than a year before. So no its not too early. Lehman et al was just another brick in the wall thats been crumbling for many months. Some areas are seeing turn around already. Weddings have been proven to be somewhat recession proof, although the dollars spent might be less, folks get married in good times and in bad....for better or worse. .

I have 7 booked right now, the competition is fierce here. I would guess there are probably around 70 wedding photographers in this metro area of 300,000 people. Is this the same everywhere?

No, i don't think the market is anywhere near that saturated here.
