I have found a guy selling a Yashica FX-3 camera with Sigma 18mm F2.8 ultra wide angle lens PLUS a Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm F1.4 for a great price... Not that I need a 50, but thought I might try it and sell the other stuff...
No need for any surgery save maybe clipping the aperture tab a.k.a 'shark fin' on the pack of the lens if you have clearance issues. Takes 10 secs and is painless and is required for some lenses on the 5D. My 60 S Makro required the clipping, my 50/1.7 did not.
Unfortunately it looks like I am second in line (if the first buyer falls through.) The camera, the Sigma 18/2.8 and the Zeiss all going for $150 which seems like a deal...
I am second in line. But a guy is supposed to stop by at 3 today to pick them up. Sounds like the buyer just wants the Zeiss while the seller wants to sell it all as a kit. If the buyer is a no-show or if negotiations break down then I might be in luck. But its doubtful given the great price...
But I learned something along the way. Also, given that I have a Takumar 50/1.4 and a Rokkor 58/1.2 I really don't need another fast 50...

So either the 50/1.7 or 50/1.4 won't have mirror issues on a 5D? I did not take the plunge yet because the lens DB on pebble place says "iffy".
I DO have problems clearing the mirror on my 5D. I've even used 2 different adapters and it still won't clear the mirror.
