Congrats on your new cam. =] Both produce astounding IQ. It's hard to describe, but I do feel I notice a reasonable difference in color accuracy between the pair. Here are two quick grabs from a wedding a couple months ago (granted different lenses/focal lengths/perspectives [16-35 vs 24-70], etc, and about 20 min between the shots -- so, yes hard to compare). Still, when I shoot the cameras side by side I can generally pick out which cam the files came from. For this pair, both were shot in the same color space and handled similarly, etc, etc... the take-home is that in these two photos, the extreme greens and blues appeared much truer/richer from the 1Ds2. It is a very subtle difference, usually, but in general I would make that a blanket statement for all colors from my experience to date with both cameras. Samples: you pick.

The 5D II's sensor is supposed to be at least as good as the 1Ds3 .... so that makes the 5D II INCREDIBLE value at just $2,700 don't you think? And that's probably the reason why most of the major stores have stopped taking any more pre-orders - they simply cannot cope with the unprecedented high demand for this camera.

Yes - compared with $3200 5D1 three years ago. Interesting too see how D700, A900 and 5D2 playing out the market share.

That's not a fair response John. We ALL loved the images from silver halide emulsion film .... like we all loved the "warm and musical" sound of vinyl records played through a valve amp. But those days are well behind us, even though some still own film cameras and turntables.

Digital images can look a little "hard and edgy" compared to film images. A bit like comparing continuous-tone photo printing to offset lithography. So let's cut Paul Yi some slack, as a lot of us know exactly what he means.

Maybe so Bobby but it seems like every time there is a new release (granted the 1dsmk2 is not) we get a chorus of "its so film-like", as if there is something wrong with digital images i.e. they are just not as "good" as silver halide images. Maybe I read too much into the comment...

The 1ds3 was the first camera that brought the F word to my mind though the 1ds2 was also great.
