200 F2 all the way! When you get your D700 you'll be glad you have the 200 f2 to attach to it! When you get the next new digital nikon body you'll be glad you have the 200 f2 to attach to it!
Yeah, 200/f2 would be cool, although so would 400/f2.8, 200-400/f4. Honestly, I can't complain about the rate I've been satisfying my NAS recently, though, so maybe I oughta quit while I'm ahead...
Besides a basic studio light setup, and some ND filters (neither of which have the N part of NAS), I'd be interested in picking up a fish eye and/or a macro lens (focal lengths undecided).
Perhaps, down the road I might look into some long-fast glass . . . but I'm in no hurry there . . . divorce filings would likely follow . . . don't want to go there . . .
I would say if you do not want to spend the 4000+ dollars for a new one....get a used no AF 200mm F2 manual....I just love mine....also with the money you save you can pick up a cheap 300mm f2.8 manual too...and still have enough for a couple of extra toys...
I have defeated NAS. There is absolutely nothing "Nikon" I wish to purchase. I am cured. I will not spend one single penny on anything Nikon.
To prove this I am planning on buying a Lumix LX3 (as soon as B&H gets them back in stock), a Sekonic L-758 light meter, some Bowens monolights, a used Leica M6, a 35mm lens for the M6, a used Contax RX, Zeiss 35mm for the Contax, a couple of 120 backs for my Mamiya RB67....
just used a d3 for 2 weeks now I need 1 asap, also why did nps have to let me use the 300 2.8 it's like they want me to spend more $$$ or something.... I hate them...
