p.1 #1 · My New Baby!

She's a beaut. Unfortunately, I'm at a loss of how to take good car pictures. Tips would be mighty appreciated. I also tried out selective coloring using the history brush.

In other news, thank god gas has gone down because a 4.4L V8 running supreme ain't cheap.

congrats... it was my favorite a number of years ago. I still prefer this design above the new Chris Bangle design. I have had one for 3 years, but with a much smaller engine... A really wonderful car.

I think the E39 body style is the best looking 5 series. The new E92 3'ers are gorgeous but I'm not digging the 2004-2008 5 series body style (can't afford one either )

Car shots work well with very early or very late in the day sun (sorta like landscape shots). You could also get a car mount, drag the shutter, and shoot yourself driving. Slave a speedlight inside the car or just put a hot light on the seat. Shoot at the beach, in a warehouse area, on a scenic overlook, etc.

My black E36 M3 Coupe doesn't get out of the driveway much these days, but it's a joy to drive nonetheless, even though its a de-tuned, U.S. market version.

had an 03 for 2 years, loved the handling and whatnot. CPO'd?? definately worth the 1100 bucks or whatever it cost.

My wife's truck is in the shop (some idiot hit her last week) so, being a nice guy, I agree to drive the rental - a family VAN. Boy how I miss my 325xi. I forgot how floaty other vehicles are as opposed to feeling like you're on rails. Enjoy the power of that bad boy.

I used a gradient map (black to white) and then painted in the windows and lights with the History Brush.

Its a cool technique, I've never really tried it before though.

Grats man! You might be interested about learning how to take rig shots. This site explains the technique:

Here's a really cool shot of my co-worker's car, captured with a D50 (nope, I'm not the photographer):

I used to think that these shots required some very expensive gear, but it's really not bad at all, especially if you can make it on your own:

Just an idea, if you want to experiment...

I wonder what he did, photoshop the arm out?

Yeah, he photoshopped the 'boom' out. I'm learning more and more about rig shots, and have done about 10-15 shoots, so I'm still new. But what I've learned is MOST angles on the rig shots are perfect. I'm not a fan of the side/profile view of the car, however.
